It is also the band’s most improvisation-forward record to date, leaving a distinctive mark by the world-class, outstanding trumpeter Ralph Alessi. Here, many artistic encounters\u2014backed by undeniable erudition\u2014become a reflection of an entirely different world, one heavily shaped by the distinct artistic language created for this project.<\/p>\r\n
There is no denying that the group steps out more boldly along the path of their own musical sensibilities, where experimentation and the coexistence of separate sonic forms occupy an important place. Consequently, the sound is characterized by sophisticated elements and, at times, a contrasting coloration driven by a principle of order intersecting with simultaneous disharmony. As a result, expression serves as a powerful vessel for raw emotion one moment, only for melodic accents to take the lead the next, carefully softening the overall picture.<\/p>\r\n
Yet, each time, it remains a distinct story told by each musician, who tries to convey something to us in a rather unconventional way. Because of this, we are presented with one of the band’s most intriguing projects, which intuitively coexists with the style that Ralph Alessi developed specifically for this occasion.<\/p>\r\n
Most of the tracks are original compositions by the leader, Micha\u0142 Starkiewicz, one belongs to Radek Wo\u015bko, while the remainder was born from the collision of ideas among all the musicians. This is precisely why the wildly developed improvisation is so crucial, at times completely upending any assumptions regarding structure (as heard in „Broken”). This introduces a sort of delicate clutter that may not always be easy to digest.<\/p>\r\n
Looking at it from another perspective, however, this represents immense creative freedom, untethered by any conventional formulas, and is precisely what makes it so intriguing („A Walk Along”). Furthermore, you won\u2019t find any attempts here to paint nature with sounds; instead, it is a game of free association, inviting the listener\u2014provided they are willing to engage with the project\u2014to delve deeper into emotionality. True, it is not an easy task, but once certain listening habits are discarded, one can touch upon the profound themes that this music carries („The Texture of Life”). This is made all the more rewarding by moments that are more melodic, shrouded in a uniquely beautiful aura („Elephant Song”).<\/p>\r\n
Mechanics of Nature<\/i> is a successful triumph over a challenging artistic endeavor. It can be intense and utterly expressive within its sonic space, yet also calm, gentler, and consequently, incredibly magnetic. This album is a clash of elements that gives birth to a highly distinctive statement\u2014the kind we truly need in art. This is music not for the masses, but for a perceptive listener capable of finding personal emotions within open jazz improvisations. This is exactly what The Beat Freaks are delivering right now.
